Lunar Eclipse

I finally managed to go over the few HDR hundred images I captured of the May total lunar eclipse....
and spend some more time on processing some solid data (the luxury of which I did not have for the rushed APOD version)

Fairly happy with this one

Hope you enjoy the view.

Great shot Peter. You've even got colors in the starfield.

Thanks Marc. I've been keeping a low profile lately due my role at CWAS this year...(thankfully that process is now pretty much done and dusted).

Just which this pattern of cloud every new moon would come to an end to allow some more imaging time.

Thanks guys.

While Lunar eclipses are seen by some as passe’, I find it a challenge to properly tame the vast dynamic range of these events and the resulting images can be very engaging when you get it right.

I left in the scattering/glow from the deep star-field exposure that totally blew out the bright edge of the moon to convey just how bright that edge was….figuring this was a more honest depiction of the scene than trying to mask it.

My only grumble was that I misplaced an adapter I needed to use an EOS camera with my AP field-flattener so had to image the eclipse without it (the moon was not going to wait!).

Rookie error I'll hopefully avoid for the next one.

Very kind comments gentlemen.

The Canon EOSRa and Camranger2 system made capture very easy via my iPad. Nice BIG focus screen and very easy to set up intervalometer + HDR sequence.
