Fastening a pier to sandstone……advisable

Hi all,

So I’m after some advice on whether it is a good idea to mount a telescope pier to solid sandstone. Being on Sydneys Lower North Shore my yard is nothing but sandstone. I have identified a spot where I could put my pier and from what I can tell it looks solid as it is a smaller exposed section of a much, much larger piece.

It’s quite a nice spot, a few metres form my front door, raised up and about 1m x 1m. As I said it is part of a much large piece of sandstone (I would estimate the weight of the entire piece would have ‘tonnes’ after it).

I’ve read where people say you should put a pier on 1sqm of concrete but if my base is solid is there any reason why I couldn’t put my pier there?

sandstone should be fine, approach it like a rock-climbing post, drill 3+ inches, clean the holes properly, epoxy in stainless bolts and secure your pier on those bolts,
