Mysterious red object over Brisbane September 25
Maybe someone can help us. On Saturday night at around 7.10 pm we observed a very high constant red light traveling at very high speed over Brisbane. It travelled from the north west to the south east and was traveling at a very high altitude and very fast, at least twice as fast as the ISS travels.
The red light didn't blink on or off at any time on and it was certainly not an airliner, as at the same time we observed a commercial plane in the sky and typically their lights blink on and off, this red light stayed on constantly and was much, much higher in the sky than a plane and traveling extremely fast.
Also, when the object had traveled approximately three quarters over the sky to the south east it suddenly stopped and quite quickly changed direction two or three times, before recommencing its passage to the south east, quickly disappearing beyond the horizon.
All the time this was happening there were major fireworks happening over central Brisbane for the annual River Fire event.
Help!!
Cheers
Brian

Hi Brian, welcome to IIS.
How high in degrees (roughly) was the object when you first noticed it?
How long did it take the object to disappear over the horizon after its maneuvres, relative to the time it took to cross 3/4 of the sky.
How low/distant was your horizon at the time, over which the object disappeared quickly?
How did you establish that the object was flying high and fast as opposed to low and slow? The former would not be consistent with something like a drone whereas the latter might be.

Sounds like a drone to me. At night, you really can't judge their altitude, and relatively speaking they travel fast.
I observed on once filming a Canberra festival at night - fireworks too - you could easily convince yourself it was something else and looked to be at around 20,000 ft whereas it was likely 200 ft if that. There was a steady blue light one too further away.

Maybe the aliens enjoy watching fireworks shows as much as humans do? (Or maybe they were concerned that the puny earthlings were thinking of mounting an attack against them?)
In all seriousness, I would suggest the most likely explanation would be an aircraft or drone associated with the River Fire show. Don't forget - we had the army choppers and RAAF Globemaster flyover earlier in the evening, and there would have been several news helicopters (and maybe drones?) filming the event.

Drones are not permitted within 1500 metres of the CBD during the Riverfire events.
There might have been a News helicopter in that region, as Channel 9 had some nice aerial views on their live broadcast between 7:00pm and 7:30pm. However, the helicopter candidate does not match the profile you mentioned.
Cheers

Not permitted doesn't mean they aren't there Lots of rogue drone "pilots" out there

Thank you all for your posts. The object was roughly 20 degrees above the horizon when we first noticed it and it took roughly 1 to 2 minutes to traverse over the sky to the point where it suddenly stopped. After its changes of directions which took roughly 20 seconds, it then took another 20 seconds to then go out of sight.
During the time we watched the object we saw an airliner coming into Brisbane from the north west and it appeared to be much lower than the object, and traveling slower than the object.
The light on the object was quite noticeable and did not go on and off during the time we watched it cross the sky. Our first thought was also a drone and perhaps that was what it was but why would it go right across the sky and then disappear over the horizon to the south east when it had come from the north west??
Anyway, perhaps it was the Chinese checking us all out!!
Thank you all again.

Maybe it was the Chinese Tiangong Space Station ... you know ... being a red object in the sky.

Probably a drone working on the event, either control/command related, or photographic.
Just because drones are 'not permitted' doesn't mean there aren't legit ones working on the event.
Cheers,
Jason.
