New moon = island universe time!

Snaffled a clear night on a new moon - first time I think its happened since last September in Bris, so thought I'd see how my Opoto LRGB filters do on more than just stars in a bortle 6.

Long story short - not so great! Only 1 nights data, so concede it would be a lot better with 3x the data; but gradient control a nightmare, signal strength poor. Happy to have tried out shooting one of the old island universe's from my Bris backyard, but would definitely only devote alot more time to broadband targets from darker skies. Might also behoove me to pick a broadband target closer to the equator - CBD lights lay SE of my loc so prob not helpful with gradients

NGC 6744 - 2 hrs each RGB, 4 hrs lum. 0 gain for all, 90 secs on the RGB, 60 secs for the lum. No hires for this one, not really 'bin worthy

Not a bad result at all. I think you’ve done well to control the LP in processing but unfortunately the more processing you with these kind of targets the less natural they start to look. That’s a fair bit of integration but shooting into the city skylight dome is exceptionally tough without a filter. I’ve been trying to hit most of the new moons myself for galaxy shots without a filter but into the city lights is just a awful. Unfortunately for you most of the bright galaxy targets right now are rising out of the SE.
Still glad you posted your efforts mate and hopefully you can get to some dark sky sometime for another go.
