NGC 3372 and 3576 Quick SHO experiment with ASI183 Colour

Hi All,
I like this hobby - there is always more to learn!
Today I wanted to go through the process of SHO with my colour camera to test out how the process would be for mono!

Process.
* ASI183 MC , Esprit 100
* NGC 3576 5 X 300 sec Sii, Ha, Oii 3.5 nm Bin1 gain111 Temp -20C
* NGC 3372 10 X 300 sec Sii, Ha, Oii 3.5 nm Bin1 gain111 Temp -20C
* Darks, Bias, (No Flats)

Colour channels Individually stacked and converted to black and white, then followed the integration process in Affinity.

The process was easier than I thought and I think if I used a Mono camera I would get finer detail with less AMP Glow (hopefully). Will try to increase exposure time to get finer detail but then expect Amp Glow to be problematic.

NGC 3372 and 3576

Chris.

Hi Chris

Always more to learn, that's for sure.

Are you using a filter wheel on the colour camera?

If so you loose a lot of data.

NB is only practical when using a mono camera, this statement could start a war

Anyways good effort

Looking great Chris, so you did go the filters as we talked about? Which program did you use for processing?

That's great! I'm tempted to get some filters for my colour camera as well.

Keen to see how you take this further, please continue to share

Hi Adam and Karl,
Yes, I bought a 5 x 1.25" filter wheel and a set of Antlia 3.5nm SHO filters. Prior to this I used a 2" Filter Draw with IR Cut and Duoband filter. I really enjoy the filter wheel and makes automation so much easier. I have it loaded with SHO, IR Cut, and a light pollution filter suitable for Bortle 4. The automation means that I can do SHO imaging on Carina and then switch to a broadband target without having to touch/change anything.

Interestingly with the Oiii filter I get less AMP Glow with the 183MC. I think it's because the GGB are being used in the RGGB Bayer matrix. Whereas Ha and Sii only fill the R. I am getting quite reasonable signal with the Sii which surprised me ( especially on NGC 3576).

For these targets I took subs with each of the filters, stacked individually and converted to black and white. I then bought each of the SHO layers together and applied the Hubble palate colours. As the Ha is dominant I used a 'live adjustment' layer to adjust the Ha to taste.

I used Affinity Photo on the Mac to both stack and process.
