Ok I have a CGX, since late 2016, and have tried a few things like this. The PWI software does have some nice features, and the Sky Modelling works well, however I found the more stars I added the more random the error in precision became. Now I do not use Starsense, let me be clear about that, but I still prefer the good old hand controller that comes with the mount. I think the last time I aligned it was probably three years ago. You see it sits on a good pier in my observatory, and I took great care in initial SCP alignment on installation. So i did a good three star alignment, making sure the time was absolute correct, and then added a few calibration stars from different quadrants to create a six star sky model. Now years later, and many nights of use, it still is spot on target, provided the time is correct.
Use what works and is trustworthy over time.
Yes, it does seem to be more a hinderance than a help most of the time. I liked the idea of the auto allign, and ASPA. I also find, that the hand controller will slew in the correct directions, but with CPWI, the directions seem to be 90 deg off - right becomes down, up, becomes right, etc.
To be honest I don't even plug in the hand controller to the mount - I don't
spend much time out in the dark with it anyway - just turn it on, and head back inside
