Matching Camera to Lens

Recently purchased a Askar ACL200 F4 lens but I don't think I can use either the ST-8300 or the ST-4000XCM.

I am going to have to go small on the pixel size to make this work aren't I?

If you can get the correct back focus and get it to focus either of those cameras will work. I’d say that many of us get too focused on trying to get the perfect sampling; pixel size comparisons to resolution per aperture that the point is lost a little bit.

Going with a smaller pixel size will give you better overall resolution but at the expense of signal. If you want to go deep and pick up faint dust then you’re better off with larger pixels.

In my experience pixel size is irrelevant for lens imaging. I have gotten good images using 9 micron pixelled cameras with 50mm lenses.

Sampling becomes more important with long focal length. I think its somewhat overemphasised for shorter focal lengths.

For example look at the many superb FSQ106 image and 9 micron cameras.
They are not a good match sampling-wise but it makes little difference.

Try using small pixels at 3 metres focal length and you'll notice it a lot more. You'll be a lot more effect of weak seeing.

Greg.
