Solar mosaic 5 April 2013

Part of the data I captured on the 5 April this image is taken with the double stacking unit in place. Several imagers have told me they had trouble with using the DS units and getting the panels right. I can say this is a fiddly thing to get right but I think I have sorted the problem. My thoughts on using the DS unit is to capture at 0.5A rather than at 0.7A. Hoping to get more detail through the lower angstrom selected. I think the detail is certainly better but perhaps I need to look at another setting in the band pass.

I like the filaproms in this image with a few of them being seen around the limb. These give an interesting 3D feel to the image. The large active region is of interest too with several part of it giving nice textures.

Lovely full disk Paul. The filaprom gives it a great 3D feel! Well done on DS and keeping things so even. I might revisit it after seeing your effort.

Ted, I found that if you put the DS pressure tuner exactly 180 degrees around from primary tuner this helps in getting things working. Then just set the primary and then adjust the DS unit until the field is evenly illuminated. Watch out for Newton's rings too. I could just barely see them when I moved the scope up and down and side to side to determine even illumination. I know that the Imaging Source cameras do have an issue with Newton's rings, but from memory I did not see anything like that on your image when using the DS unit.

Really nice Paul, what a stunning and compelling view of our solar dynamo, you’ve really mastered this genre of solar imaging.

Cheers

Super work Paul, so much hi res detail. Looks like vandals have been there though and scribbled WC down on the lower third of the disc.

Regards
Trev

You've really come along leaps and bounds Paul from the work you were posting 12-18 months ago.

The 3D look here is excellent.

Cheers

Thanks Pete, the acquisitions have made a huge difference. I am still keen to get a much bigger sensor in USB3 to do a complete disk in hi res with the one panel. Then I think I will be cooking with gas.

Thanks guys for all the very nice compliments. I will have to take a look for that WC Trev.

Thanks for adding the smaller image Paul. As much as I like closeup's, I also like to be able to take it all in without scrolling. Lovely work.
