M42 second attempt

Hi all,

I've added some data to yesterday's image. I also calibrated the images with biases, darks and flats. Sky is a little darker. Still a little vignetting in the corner, perhaps my flats aren't up to scratch. I'm not sure if I prefer the star shapes to yesterday's image, but there is definitely less noise and more contrast. Also, I wasn't perfectly aligned, so I needed to crop quite a bit to ditch banding on one of the length sides

Feel free to share some feedback so that I can progress.

Thanks,
Stéphane

Hi Stephane

I hope you don't mind, I have just back the exposure back in lightroom on my tablet To me it was just a bit to over exposed .

Thanks Kuz! I don't mind you saying so at all. Feedback is important to improve. I'll keep that point in mind when processing

Hi Stephane, With Kuz's adjustment you can now see the Trapezium at the core better This is part of what people like to see in M42 images. You are off to a great start.
Cheers, Richard

I'm just wondering what the common feel is about noise reduction in astro photos. It can potentially soften out fine details, but at the same time can change a background with noise to a smooth noiseless background. Would Stéphane's picture benefit from noise reduction or would that be a bad move?
