Ngc 6744

Heres my attempt at the Pavo galaxy.
Taken with 12inMeadeACF, mod Canon 50d, LPS filter on the Gold Coast.
95 x 3mins at 800ISO I had to throw out 20 other subs.
Cropped by about 20%

I found it difficult to extract the signal. Eventually I split the luminance out and worked on it separately. After combining RBG and working the saturation up a lot, its not too bad. Blown out the centre of the galaxy so I'll have to work on that with masks?

Cheers

Hi Glenn.

Would so love to give this one a go, but I can't look south.

You will have to keep showing us what is down there (from up there)!

Re your image:
I can see some banding, not sure what causes that and quite a lot of noise.
Been tempted by a cooled camera?
Would sit well on your scope.

Well done

Glenn,
Great effort there for taking on a dim difficult target with a DSLR
Well done !!
Noise ( banding ) is quite high due to your DSLR’s sensor temp ( probably up around 25 + degrees )
At some stage in the future I’d recommend you go next step to cooled OSC
I used my Canon 600D for 4 or 5 years and struggled with noisy low res images ( imaged NGC 6744 too with my DSLR ) I now have a 2600MC and virtually noise free on any length sub on any target and so much more fine detail ( chalk and cheese ) Expensive yes , but worth every cent .....
Canon DSLR QE around 35 to 40 %!
ZWO 2600MC QE +80%
Cheers
Martin

Thanks Martin.
Yes I definately want to get rid of the dslr and my ZWO178MC in favour of the ZWO26000MC...

Now with those horizontal bands suppressed!
