I bought a Mak127 about 2 yrs ago thinking I could get a closer look at the stars up in the night sky - learn a little more about them.
The stars still looked like pinpoints - but Jupiter, Saturn and Mars were putting on their best, and the family were excited.
I started doing something else for a while but I’d taken a step and I learned the names of more stars and constellations, read and watched a lot.
I bought a Skywatcher 72ED, hooked up my Canon T3i and took my first astrophotograph - eta carinae, because I could sort of see it and it seemed like a good beginner’s target.
I learned a lot from that crappy shot - field curvature, colour/mono/cooled sensors - and I worked at it.
I bought a 533MM Pro camera and some NB filters - I like a challenge - and jumped in at the deep end.
This is the first shot I took with it and now I know where the Southern Pinwheel is. I was amazed to see this lying out there, just too dim to see.
It’s not the up close, in-your-face shot but I like the context in a wider shot - gives me more perspective.
