Goodbye Microsoft, hello Linux Mint!

I've been using Linux now for about 30 years, various distros. Settled on Kubuntu for now (was hardcore Gentoo for a long time).

I can do gaming (Steam), astro processing (PixInsight), data acquisition (kstars/ekos/indi and FireCapture), etc much easier than I ever could with Windows. So much easier to maintain and use. UI is much cleaner, and I can easily run with the 7 virtual desktops I've got on my main machine.

The Register has some advice for breaking the (bad) Windows habit - see article below, in which there's a link to another article advising how to get extended support for Windows 10 for those who need more time to migrate to something better (instead of Windows 11 and inherent submission to your new AI overlord).

Windows isn't an OS, it's a bad habit ...

I've got some good Windows news.

I upgraded yesterday from Win10 to Win11.
It all went smoothly and I have no issues.
All my old legacy programs work - everything works.
All my desktop icons are in the same position as before.
After the update I still had to load many other Win11 updates.

I have a desktop with an i7 11700 CPU and 32 gig of RAM and
of course it has a TPM module as well. ( all bought over 4 years ago )
I didn't like the new wallpaper so I used the old Win10 wallpaper instead.
I also didn't like the dark mode so I changed it to light mode.

Also - an old legacy XP program that worked well on Win7 didn't work
properly on Win10 but now works fine on Win11 when
I uninstalled and re-installed it.

There seems to be little difference between Win10 and Win11.
I don't have to learn Linux and I've hit the ground running.
I don't have to use the Win10 image that I saved on the spare Hard disk
or the boot CD that I made as a precaution.

Windows allows you less control (should you want to do anything different), less privacy and you're paying (one way or another) to keep the evil empire Microsoft in business.

I wrote from the point of view that so far I have avoided
the many Win11 horror stories I've read on places like Whirlpool.

Spying on kids or anyone, without permission should be a criminal offence.

How can Microsoft get away with it?
