Apollo 11 trio with smartphone

Hi all,

One thing I don't see much here on IIS at all are smartphone pics.

And for that matter, I'm not even sure where to put this.

With the 52nd anniversary of the Apollo 11 landing being this week, here is my pic of the Apollo 11 trio of craters.

This trio is a difficult visual lot as the are small - largest being Armstrong at 4.6km and Aldrin the smallest at 2.5km. Visually they are a test of optical quality. I have failed to see them in an 8" Meade, yet nabbed all three with a 127 Synta Mak.

This pic is a single frame using a 9" Santel Mak with a 7mm Vixen SSW eyepiece. I used a smartphone adapter with an Oppo A5 2020 on Auto setting. Image not cropped.

A little post processing was done with PhotoDirector - nothing too flash.

Difficult trio to pull with a single frame - I took no less than two dozen single shots, with this being the best. Seeing conditions were very good, which is the only chance I would have had to pin the three. Needless to say I am very happy with this shot! There are even smaller craters visible in this shot too.

Alex.

Nice work - you've also got the Ranger 8 and Surveyor 5 landing sites in that frame.

Cheers
