Startools Image Processing Video
Just stumbled across this video ( March 2021 ) on Startools, Astro image processing software which delves a bit deeper into its background and workflow structures
Presented by Ivo Jager , Startools Developer
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=8Luu2-BMXzc
Hope you find it interesting, whether your an existing Startools user or maybe considering using it for the first time
Cheers

Hmm......
I thought it was a good insight into this clever software developed by a clever man who did use PI and a range of other processing software and took a different approach by developing Startools to remedy some of the underlying problems in conventional astro processing software.
Well worth watching especially if you use software other than Startools
Cheers

Have saved it to "my favourites" Martin. Haven't had a chance to have a

it's over 2 hours long, need time to process the actual demo without all the other bits in between. Looks great but on a mac it may as well not be used. I do have a new windows pc I might try it on thanks for the vid.

Like others, haven't found a couple of free hours to take it in yet.

StarTools run very fast if you have a GPU, even a low end one. Make sure to run the GPU binary, not the CPU one.
With CPUs, indeed, it runs very slowly.

Yes, thank you for finding that video, Martin. I watched it in instalments. Ivo's exposition was great: coming from a film photography background, I have been put off by the step-wise digital software world's concepts and jargon. His approach makes a lot of sense. I have a computer upgrade coming which I shall download Startools on; unfortunately GPU's are currently affected by the chip shortage.
And thanks for all your IIS contributions always interesting and useful.

Thanks for the heads up Martin.
I have downloaded the program and will have a look pending some clear skies so I can practice on some fresh data, if the clouds ever clear.
Cheers

Kevin,
Thanks
I’ve been a avid Startools user since version 1.3 , back then I was using a DSLR in my newts and noise was my worst enemy. Startools made processing these noisy images a dream, not to mention the vast array of modules with default parameters which hit the spot every time
Now using the ZWO 2600 Startools really shines even on ordinary data
Cheers

Thanks Dennis,
Yes this weather pattern is really stubborn, how much longer ????
From version 1.7 Startools has really catered for the DSLR/OSC narrowband user via the Compose module and the revamped colour module with some great SHO, HOO , OOH blends etc... presets in the Matrix. I’ve had a great time producing quite a variety of OSC Narrowband Bi colour images
Cheers

There's definitely a "style" to StarTools' image output. That's all personal preference. Sometimes I like it, sometimes I don't.
The right tool for the right job!
