Forum bugs (was Message Bumping)

Hi,

I have noticed OLD read messages keep appearing as NOT read. After I have read them they go back to a read state. It is quite confussing thinking that an old thread may have had a reply, so I read it and it's the same. Any idea what might be happening?

Me three...I've been using the "Mark thread/forum as read" function a fair bit. No doubt once the software is threatened with a 20 pound sledgehammer all will be well

Peter.

Another thing thats bugging me is once you've created a new thread & posted it, the thread is not visible until someone replies. If you want to get back & edit your thread/post or whatever, you have to find your thread by going to the part of the forum you originally posted it in.

Yes this one is taking some getting used to.

Still some tweaking to do I guess.

I dislike that too. But I think you can use the "Today's posts" link from the "Quick Links" menu and see all the posts. I guess it's just a matter of getting used to the new setup.

Yes it's confusing, I mainly use the New Posts tab and instead of getting 3 or 4 pages it's loading 12 or 13

That did happen to me as well. But it's ok now. I think it might be a cookie issue. Try logging out and logging back in again.

If not, it might be a forum bug. Will have a look at it.

This sucks! I made a post but I can't go edit it, coz the thread just ain't there any more. What a confusing set-up.

Geez, I come to make the occasional post and get this run-around. I was under the impression that upgrades were to make things easier, not harder or non-existant!

Mike n Mojo. How's the 'Last Time You Visited' work, (up top, right)? I have been logged on since ~7.00 pm, & it shows me as 'last visited at 9.42 pm'? Is this correct? I have made a few posts etc.. reloaded, 'marked this forum read' etc,,, Cleared cache etc.. Hasn't changed the 'time' tho! (Still here @ 10.29 pm.)
L.
Firefox 1.5.0.1 & IE 6...
ps. Interesting tho, When I make a post, I see it immediately... Apparently, lots do not!
pps. I have the 'edit & quote' + 'save, go advanced, delete & cancel' buttons all avail...np.

I don't understand your problem. When I make a post and press submit, I am taken to the entire thread and I can see my post (and edit if I wish). If I go back to "New Posts", yes I don't see the thread anymore because i've read the entire contents of the thread - therefore it's not new anymore.

Maybe try using the "Today's Posts" instead of "New Posts".

No need for the attitude Ken. The ugprade wasn't done to make things difficult for you.

I believe it's the last time you visited the fourm - I wouldn't expect it to update while you're still browsing etc. It probably changes when you've closed the browser and stayed away for 15 minutes or more.. Will test it out later.

Ian, try what I suggested to Ken.
Do you use the "Quick Reply" box, or "Go Advanced"? If you click "Submit Reply", doesn't it take you to the thread you just replied to, with your post at the bottom?

FWIW - My observations on various problems

Missing Attatchment button - fixed by flushing cache on one of my machines, the others were ok.

Posting a msg/replying - didnt notice any problems

Last visited time - seems as I would expect, gets correctly reset on next login if I click Log Out, or exit and wait about 15 minutes.

Logo background image with Christmas Hat appearing/disappearing-
Flush cache and start from http://www.iceinspace.com.au/ - No hat
Flush cache go directly to forums http://www.iceinspace.com.au/forum/ - Yes hat
As the files have the same name whichever is loaded in cache is then always used until flushed.

You are correct Mike
What does not happen is for my posts to appear when I hit the "New posts" button.
Same for the "User CP", until I hit the show all subscribed threads button.
It was not like this previously, Ijust checked with this post.
Hitting the browser refresh button does not help either.
Just iritations really, not a huge drama :-)

Yeah that's right Ian.

Once you've written your reply to a thread, after the clicking the "Post Quick Reply" you should be taken back to the thread with your new post at the bottom. When you click "new post" the thread you were just in won't be there, as you have already been there when you read your response post.

The moon phase thing is broke. Apparently we are having another full moon on Feb21. It's only been a couple of days since the last one.
