ASIairMini a surprising limitation

I thought I might try using my ASI2600MC for some widefield with a SharpStar 61EDPH at 275mm FL. But it seems that the ASIair Mini I was using will not work with the 2600MC. It will recognise it but any attempt to image is met with an "Image Failure" message.

It works fine with an ASIairPlus though. Curious!

Hi Peter,

Are you powering the camera separately or trying to do it through the mini? It is not recommended to power a camera through any of the ASIAir models.

Cheers,
Mark

Hi Mark. I tried both methods with the same result. But I might add that I have never heard that before. In fact, I have always powered my cameras via the ASIair without any issues - and that includes 183, 071, 533, 585 and 1600 models and my 2600 is running that way right now with an ASIairPlus. Can you please point me to the source of that advice?

A postscript - It occurs to me as a possible answer that the problem may lie in the AAMini only havingbUSB2 ports whereas the 2600MC uses a USB3 cable to send and receive data and the 2600MC creates quite large images which may be more than the AAMjni can handle. Just a thought.

Hi Peter,

It was a couple of years ago, maybe things have changed. Agena Astro used to note this in their camera descriptions but I see that it has now changed - though I did find it still referred to in one of the questions about the camera (see image).

Never realised the mini only has USB2. You have to ask why when most (all?) of the ZWO cameras are USB3. That may well be the issue.

Cheers,
Mark

Hi Peter,

I have asi airs.

I recalled reading something about
camera compatibility and limitations of the mini.

Please refer attachment.

Hope this might be of help with your 2600.

.....though if true....

It won't be.

Paul.
