Meteor Cameras / Metrec

Hi Guys,

Is anyone else running a meteor camera system of any description?

I have recently got one up and running and am interested to see if anyone else has

recording on average 15 - 20 per night (during full moon) however I expect this number to go up with less light in the sky.

Hi, I’m running Meteor capture setup for about tree years. Started with security video capture card and 1/3”GEM starlight camera and settled on GStar camera, Fujicom f 0.95 lens and UFOCapture software. Last six months meteor activity in the patch of sky I’m monitoring has been pretty low.

Gday Karl,

I am also using a Gstar camera with a computar 4mm f 0.8 lens. Do you use any special settings with the Gstar, as in gain etc?

how do you go with the moon in frame (if it is at all?)

is there any reason in particular you went with UFO capture?

I have only used metrec and with the new windows version (V5 beta) I am now able to capture full frame images at high speed

Grahame.

Hi Grahame
I use UFOCAPTURE because the Meteor capture PC card was over $800 when I was putting my capture setup together. Software lacks good English manual so most of the setting are – suck and see.
I have GStar set with 4X integration, that gives me captured video at 12.5 FPS. Gain is set about ¾ way up. I did tried with full gain, but video was too noisy in the summer.
I use light activated switch to automatically switch camera on when it gets dark and then off in the morning..
Camera points 341 deg with 50 deg elevation – so around full Moon it comes in the field of view. It doesn’t cause much of problems, except some false triggering.
