I have recently purchased an EQ8 mount so I no longer need my EQ6 Mount and am looking to find it a new home.
This is a standard EQ6 Mount with the following items:
· Tripod Legs
· Mount Head
· Hand Controller
· EQDIR Cable
· USB Hub (double sided taped to the Motor Board face plate).
· 3 * 5Kg Counterweights
· Other cables such as RS232 Adaptor
· Portable Pier (Can be sold separately if required)
This was purchased by me some 2 years ago on the Ice In Space forums, the mount had been rebuilt by the previous owner/s and had some issues with smooth operation (I could feel sticking etc. in the bearings).
As a result I had completely stripped the mount (as I suspected the bearings were stuffed) and proceeded to install all new bearings (RA Axis, Dec Axis and Worm Gear drives), I have lubricated it with PTFE grease and aligned the worm gears as best they can be for an EQ6 (e.g. minimal backlash). Cost me about $200 in bearings etc. to perform.
The rebuild was performed approximately 12 months ago and I have not had any problems with the mount since e.g. it has not had any mechanical or electrical issues and it is used on a regular basis, additionally the RA Axis is now smooth as a baby’s bottom.
The only thing I can say about the mount (and it may not be an actual problem, it may just be me) is that when imaging with this mount I sometimes get egg shaped stars in the Declination axis (NOTE these are not a huge problem as per the images attached). Also this issue does not happen all the time and only when imaging at long focal lengths (e.g. on my RC8 @ 1600mm). I am not sure if this is me / software / seeing / mechanical or just the natural limitations of an EQ6 mount???? I may just be being very harsh on myself and my efforts. Anyway to demonstrate the mounts performance, attached below is some images I have taken with it.
Taken at 600mm Focal Length (WO Megrez 90 Scope)
· Andromeda Galaxy
· Horse Head Nebula
Taken at 1600mm Focal Length (GSO RC8 Scope)
· Lagoon Nebula
· Trifid Nebula
Please note the sale does not include scopes in the picture
