Stellarium DSS deep sky surveys

Hi all,

Which Deep Sky Surveys in Stellarium are you all using that provide the most galaxies.

Or is that completely different from the visual side of it?

Thanks in advance

I had not looked much at the surveys (Sky and viewing options > Surveys), but your question prompted me to do so. That is a long list, and takes ages to load on my slowish internet connection. After searching around a bit I tried "DSS colored", then Mellinger, and quite liked it.

In Configuration > Extras, I have checked on both "Nebular background" and "DSS survey". Then when viewing, I have Nebular background on as default, and that view is replaced after clicking the DSS button - and it can take quite a while for the images to appear and resolve clearly, but I definitely prefer it now as a somewhat more natural view on the galaxies and planetary nebulae I tried. I turn it off for clusters and other nebulae.
Have you tried some yourself?

If you are referring to the popout menu on the left side of the screen in Stellarium, set the slider for magnitude to 15 or whatever you think you can go down to, either visually or imaging. Then select the NGC, IC, PGC & UGC catalogue buttons.
That will give you more galaxies than you can poke a stick at as you zoom in on screen.
