Advancements in Processing...

The difference a few years experience and software advancements can make!

I was asked by a mentoree about my stacking & processing workflow. He uses a DSLR, so to demonstrate my current methods - I revisited a 2014 dataset from my old SBIG OSC (right) & completely reprocessed it (left) using my current favourites: APP, Starnet++, PS, Nik & Topaz NR AI.

They say you can't polish a t#%d, but the 2020 version is quite an improvement
Must acknowledge all the helpful critique and input from friendly folk here on IIS on the long AP journey to date - some 8 years on now from purchasing my first telescope...

The second image is a comparison of the end result from stacking, stretching and LP removal in APP, prior to all the fancy post production, and the final worked image.

Taken March 2014 from my light polluted suburban backyard - with a Saxon 900mm ED, SBIG STF8300 OSC on a bog standard NEQ6, Idas LP filter, 30x5min subs.

Big improvement. It is like looking back at my own first go at M42 (The inevitable target) versus last years.

No, but you can roll it in glitter.
