Lightning Detectors, how good are they.

Hi Guys, just wondering if anyone has had experience with Lightning Detectors, I'm not referring to Lightning Triggers, but a unit that lets you know when lightning or storm is approaching and the distance the strikes are away.
One of these things, https://www.instrumentchoice.com.au/...ex#description

and if you have had experience using one what do you think of the unit.

Thanks

Leon

I don't know about gizmos that do it Leon, but this is what I use:

https://www.lightningmaps.org/#m=oss...2;dc=0;ts24=1;

That and my Raspberry Shake and Boom (it picks up lightning within about 400kms - but you have to interpret the signal). I use the web page to identify how far away individual strikes are from the RS&B.

Might be worth a post on a "Storm Chaser" face book page or an active "Storm Chaser" web site.

If you have a smartphone the weatherzone app has lightning alerts. can't remember the distance but has yellow and red depending on distance.

The premium version will also add it onto the map

Stand under a tree during a thunder storm, and you will find out if they work

Couldn't resist posting that one.

John this is very helpful.
Could you upload a demo video tutorial of how it’s done please.
