I might be wrong " but " me thinks something has " snuck " in the back door of your computer mate....!!!! ... malware...some sort of " plugin " maybe.
Have a look in your start up files ... might find something " odd " in there that looks a bit " sus ".
That's where I would look and what processes are running in the background.
Checked no malware and it has stopped now no sign of it happening again no changes made it is a mystery. Thanks for your reply Mike and Flashdrive. No addons like that installed either. Who knows but it is gone now.
Warren, what firefox plugins/extensions do you have? There are multiple complaints about freecause.com certs expiring.Try a search for "xml.freecause.com certificate expiry" and see if any of your extensions show up there.
The problem went away by its self with no changes made and the only addons I use are WOT(WEB OF TRUST) for security when browsing and download helper and a Webs toolbar which is the free website provider I use all of which I have used for a long time with never an issue and they didn't show up on the link you provided. MSE, Malwarebytes and CCleaner run and no malware found so it must just have been a glitch.
Being a computer tech by trade, i have seen this problem often. In most cases it when you have been looking at dates and times. It can also happen on install of aplications. If it happens again, have a look at your date and time. It is often the year that is wrong and causes expire of certificate.

Thanks Mardy,
I am also a computer tech working for BEST ITE in Sydney and have completed CERT 4 in information technology. So I have already checked the usual suspects and found nothing and as stated previously it went away with no changes being made on my system so I can only say that it is never going to be known what happened I have no suspicious events in event viewer or any other warning signs in the computer.
