NGC4565 The Needls Galaxy

This is my favourite edge on galaxy, NGC4565 the Needle Galaxy or the flying saucer galaxy as I like to think of it. The smaller galaxy to the lower right of the mother ship is NGC4562.

Skywatcher 300PDS 12" F5 Newtonian, ZWO ASI 183mm Pro at -10C, 664x30 seconds unguided, LRGB with Svbony LRGB filters, modified NEQ6 Pro. Taken with short 30 sec subs over 3 nights through cloud gaps and wind. Lum Bin2, RGB Bin4.

Nice catch Kevin. Northern Queensland is good for these far northern objects which are a challenge for us way down in NSW.

Hi Kevin good effort longer subs for cmos 1 to 2minutes may have been the go IMO, I reckon you can bring out a lot more detail in with processing see my meager effort with your JPEG hope you don't mind Cheers

Thanks Geoff and Trevor. Longer subs not possible under current cloud conditions. While north Queensland may see objects further north, it's also forever cloudy here. As it was I lost 50% of subs due to cloud. And we have showers all next week so no more imaging for a while.

Another great galaxy shot Kevin..you're a veritable galactic imaging factory at the moment Such a cool looking edge on galaxy.

I loved the view of this baby I got through a 30" Dob at the Texas Star Party in 2018, looked quite close to this., just B&W

Oh it was awesome, actually the observing field was littered with 20"+ sized big Dobs, including several in the 25" - 32"range ...t'was amazing. M51 particularly, blew me away through some of these big light buckets. Actually, M51 is pretty easily the best looking galaxy visually through a scope IMO, you can comfortably make out the spiral structure in an 8" scope! Wish we had one like that down here ...closest we probably have, in terms of ease of discerning spiral structure, is maybe NGC 1365..? but no such face on classic spiral

I've imaged M51 here long time ago on film with an 8". Now though the trees have grown.
