High contrast moon map?

I've tried several times to get a decent map of the moon, all to no avail. The problem is that at full moon, the features are flattened by the angle of the light, when the stuff I want to see are typically best seen near the terminator. Also commercial maps are typically pretty low res too.

I want to get something that amalgamates all the terminators into one image, so I can actually see and label things I find interesting in the telescope, or things I *want to see.

Does such a thing exist?

Many Thanks

Markus

Hi Markus, it might be an idea to say which Maps,Books, Atlases, Apps and Software you have already tried. I use a number of different sources, so I understand what you are getting at.

I have "Moon, Mars and Venus" atlas, by Antonin Rukl (Hamlin '78).

But these days, I use LROC .

Good point! I should have said - I'm looking for a single image of the entire moon I can hang on the wall, rather than an atlas with pages. I want to be able to stare at everything in context, if that makes sense?

The central peak in Ukert crater is clearly visible and the contrast is good.

I was browsing Rolf Olsen's website recently, and he did a composite image of all the waxing moons here:
https://www.rolfolsenastrophotograph...stem/i-q5gTdwt
It's not a map with labels, but might serve as a starting point?

That's a good one too! I don't mind it not having labels as I intend to add my own!

It did exist - I had one - the Rand McNally huge wall-sized map of the moon - it is a mosaic of images from Lick observatory - so everything appears as it would near the terminator - ie in high contrast. It also had a grid an index to the craters.

Now hard to find...

At the following link you can use the scroll wheel on a mouse and enlarge the image on the screen:

I didn't look to see if these are available for purchase but they may be.
