Old observatories in Sweden

When I post photos and stories about old observatories I get a lot of positive reactions. When I wrote about Stockholm's old observatory I found a very nice and interesting story written almost 90 years ago by the Swedish astronomer ึsten Bergstrand. It's written in Swedish. I feel I must spend some hours and translate it into English for all of you that don't talk or read Swedish language, the first four pages are now translated.

The article's name in English is: Astronomical observatories in Sweden, by ึsten Bergstrand:

Let me know if you find it interesting and I translate more of the pages into English. The Swedish language in this article is very old and difficult to translate and my English isn't the best either. But I hope you will understand what's written.

I uploaded the last work, now 8 pages are finished. I have also on each page put some additional information, including maps if you want to visit some of the old beautiful observatories.

Well Lars it is a very interesting read indeed, most enjoyable. You say that your English isn't the best ... well you have shown you have a better command of the English language than most that have English as a first language. Well done in the translation. Thanks for your efforts and for posting this.

I wish my old English teacher had been alive and could read your comments, I had been upgraded :-)

But of course I had some help from the translator and my friends. There are still some left to correct. But must let my head rest before I read it through once again.

Thanks a lot !

Hi Lars

Have enjoyed reading your article on Stockholm Observatory, like the others have said, your English translation is fine and easily readable and the pictures are most interesting as well.

Hi Jeff
There will be more pages, I promise. It's so nice to hear that it's appreciated. Right now I'm a bit busy building my equipment with a 300 mm Canon lens.

A lot of new things I have learned from this old document, very interesting for me. An echo from old times about all problems that times astronomer have to solve.

Two new pages translated, now the pages 1 to 16 are online.

These two last pages are in a more modern era, the 1930s when they build the new observatory in Stockholm.

Merry Christmas to all of you !

Read about the Zeiss planetarie we once had, the projector was sold to USA and used in the Gemini and Apollo program as a star navigation training facility.
