Meade 8” Schmidt Newtonian dobsonian

Found this telescope in pretty bad shape, LXD55 mount was seized up and damaged. Cleaned the fungus off the mirror and corrector plate and made a dobsonian mount for it . Thought I’d share the result with you.
Regards Philip

Looking clean! Can't say I've seen a Cassegrain on a dob mount before

Not when you get closer. Tube looks good , mirror quite good , corrector plate shows some marks where fungus was but still good.

Like camera lenses though there's a high probability the old remains of fungus marks wouldn't impede the viewing or photography through the unit though I'm not sure on photography. I've shot with the occasional lens with fungus and haven't seen any difference to a clean lens. Next time I strip a cheap lens I buy with fungus for cleaning I must remember to take a before and after shot through it. It's been my best option for getting lenses I usually wouldn't be able to afford, buy something with fungus and strip it down and clean the glass and mechanisms. I've acquired some great lenses for my Nikon for around $50 because of fungus, lenses I wouldn't have afforded any other way.
