Bad weather is battering the SE east coast of NSW at present due to a stubborn Low which won’t bugger off
Decided to the process some recent data on M16 Eagle Nebula using the Compose module in Startools V1.7 which allows you to process OSC narrowband data into a multitude of composites as if they were RGB data sets
In Compose you set your Luminance colour to the preset L+ Synthetic L from R (2xG) B, (GB) (GB) Bi Color from OSC DSLR. Then load your data set into Red S11 channel, Green Ha channel , Blue OIII channel with interpolation on select Linear and then you start your processing whilst in synthetic Luminance or Mono
After main processing you hit the Colour module and select your Matrix from about 15 presets
I chose 2 colour options to process my OSC data set
SHO 40S11 + 60Ha , 40Ha + 60 O111, 100111
and SHO 60S11+40Ha,30S11+30Ha +40O111 , 100 O111
For OSC NB using the L Extreme filter I’m pretty happy with what Startools produced ( with some minor colour bias and saturation tweaks by me )

Main thing with Startools is that it requires clean linear data from the stacker , (untouched , unstretched, no colour adjustments , nothing) to allow the software to perform to optimum level
I use Deep Sky Stacker

Thanks Martin yes I’ve read that it needs to have virgin data- I’ve been playing with some of the saved subs (prestacked) from the ASIAIR but it’s great to have some sample workflows. Just having problems finding stacking software that is available and stable on a Mac though! I do have a PC I can use but it’s a pretty old and slow machine

There are about 15 options in the Startools Matrix ( HO , HOO , SHO and so on ..... ) to choose from and each one can be adjusted to taste. So in effect there are probably dozens and dozens of outcomes. You don’t have to combine same images to get a different outcome as there are so many individual choices. I just chose 2 to start with

If your going to use Startools for the immediate future , my advice is to use a powerful Windows PC computer
Both my laptops have i7 processors with 16GB ram , 1TB storage
Startools flies through the modules , no lagging and no drop outs
It’s very powerful software
Most Astro software works seamlessly with a PC not always compatible with a Mac ( I have a MacBook but don’t use it for Astro )
