M83 - been a while

I only managed 1.25 hr of subs with this image with the GSO 10" RC and qhy10 camera due to cloud and a software gremlin in PhDguiding. Taken 1st March. I was going to get more data last night however clouds kept coming in and so I just managed to get darks, flats etc so it wasn't a waste of time. But with the moon and Brisvegas light pollution which I was shooting directly into there were some interesting gradients in the image. I want to get more data to smooth the image as I think it is beginning to show some promise.

That's coming along nicely Allan. A bit more data to smooth out the noise. You are getting some nice colour coming through in the arms.

Looks very good. Lovely colors and details.

I'm surprised you've found any clear skies. Here in Sydney we're just trying to keep off the rain.

The rain has just started to come to Brisbane but previously it side slipped us and went to Sydney and Canberra for a change. Prior to that its been a really long time with no breaks. I wouldn't have got this if I hadn't had an observatory with it all set up.

If I'm going to be picky I'd say its looking a bit too blue Allan, but showing signs of being a beauty - wonderful detail coming through. Will be nice to see a bit of the reds coming out.

Hope the weather breaks for all of us over next month or so....

Hi Allan,

Looks like the basis of a great galaxy photo.

The QHY10 seems to be an excellent camera.

Ross.

Thanks Ross, yes the QHY10 has a good well depth as well as pixel size and is proving to be quite capable when all the processing frames are done properly.

Hi Allan,

Some really nice detail!
This gives me some idea of what to aim for on my next try at M83.

Thanks,
Justin.

Go Allan, that's excellent, looks real...I like the un-noise ninga'd version best though, for me if the artificial smoothing is obvious then I prefer slight noise

Best of luck with the extra data.

Mike
Hmm..ahhh...it is real Mike

thanks Mike, just in there trying with this crappy weather. I agree with you re the Noise Ninja. If you look at the stars they start to get desaturated colour-wise when it's applied. There is no short cut -just get the data and you can easily process it and do as many Sidonio's as you like

Thanks for the comments. It's not only the posts but the feedback you get from other addicts that keeps you going out. I'll never be a Bradley or Sidonio but I love the whole shebang of the computer programs, optics and subjects that come together sometimes to give you the gift of an image that you know is the best that you can do. But there's always the hope that it can be better. Clear skies to you guys as well.
