Thanks for the heads up, sadia. I had read something about this a while ago.

Martin, why the SBIG and not the QHY? Well, for starter's the SBIG is a full 35mm frame... I've been spoilt using a full frame DSLR, and, the larger chip affords a less intimate view of certain objects. A little space around them, if you will.

The remote guide head arrived today, thanks Andrew (Comet Guy)!

I was going to head out tonight and do some imaging, but, I checked SkippySky (for the first time) and we have 90%+ cloud cover forecast well into Sunday evening. That puts paid to that idea. I won't get to use it until I get back from holidays.

Thank you, everyone.

H

I'm having a grand old time here at the moment. Messing about with both MaxIm DL and CCDSoft getting dark frame libraries happening. Awesome fun.

I can just see it now H... your setup at dusk, the 127 with the STL hanging off the back of it, you, with one eye squinting, leaning backwards, hands to the sky screaming ITS ALLLIIIVVEEE!!!

All the very best to you mate... I can guarantee it will live up to all the hype that surrounds these cameras.. and I'm sure in your hands it will sing a beautiful song..

Congrats mate.
Alex.

You will find this an interesting experience now going from colour to monochrome. Couple of months of steep learning ahead. Best of luck.

Good on you H, and a proud father you will be. Can't wait to see it open it's eyes for the first time. My new baby I'm just as proud of but only baby steps so far until it gets it's guidance and a bit of colour in it's cheeks. Hasn't even gone out with it's OAG buddy yet. Only played a little with it's filters for luminance and shutter darks. But if you put your ear real close to it you can hear it purring - or is that me.
Congrats H.

Carl,

Haha, no more drool. I've packed it up and put it away as I'm heading out for another photographic expedition, so, no first light until I get back. :frown:

Alex,

I can't wait for that moment, too. But, it'll have to wait until the Feathertouch arrives.

Paul,

The only thing I'm concerned about is capturing data. The processing/Photoshop side of things isn't a concern. Eagerly awaiting first light!

Do have fun in NZ mate... We'll have to do some organizing next time you're going over there for a photography expedition... NZ is one of the places I'd love to go with my 5D + 17-40 F/4L..

I'm going back in November, for spring; lupines, wide open green grass fields, leading your eye towards still snow-capped mountains in the distance, stunning sunrises and sunsets... I could go on.

Looks like you will have no more time for that 5DMKII now mate. What a shame hey? I know!! You can give it to meeeee if you are worried that it won't get used now!

Shame to be in NZ without the STL while we have clear crisp skies and no Moon...
