I thought I'd just contribute my quick snap of Comet Lovejoy from 23rd December. What an exciting comet this has turned out to be!
After having been out on the morning of the 22nd, only to be met by a bank of clouds, I managed to get this shot of Comet Lovejoy on 23rd December instead. This time I decided to stay home and mount the camera on the scope so I could use tracking. It did however mean that I couldn't get a clear view all the way down to the horizon, but still pretty close...
It's not the greatest image of the comet since my digital camera is quite noisy (Canon S5IS), but it was amazing to see how much brighter the tail was than the nearby Milky Way. This is also apparent in the image.
It was very obvious as soon as the end of tail peeked above the trees.
I haven't been able to get a view since, so I'm not sure how much is has faded by now.
Nice one, Rolf - the two tails are quite distinct. The comet was still super bright (more so than the LMC/SMC) on the 25th, but noticeably less so this morning (27th).
