Bintel GSO 12" RCA, Carbon Fiber Truss Tube $2300 (negotiable)

I purchased this a while back from Logan, it's in good condition, has been stored in an insulated shed (when not in use), has never been rained upon, has not been exposed to temps below -5 degrees C or above 50 degrees C. The primary mirror is showing some signs of age, but takes beautiful images nonetheless. Some minor cosmetics on the outside of the tube (ex sticky stuff from some foam accessory on the side) but otherwise in excellent condition.

Asking: $2300...down from $2500, that’s more than 50% of a new 12”. I am happy to discuss reasonable offers.

I have installed a secondary heater which works a treat using a kendricks dew heater controller - or your preferred brand of choice. I can throw in the astro-zap cover but do not have a box for this, so postage may be an expensive option (sorry) unless you want it badly and then I'll look at getting a box and couriering it - always risky though and expensive.

I'd prefer pick up, I'm in Murrumbateman but can travel witihin the Yass/ACT area or meet at Marulan / Bungendore.

Comes with all things normally supplied, nothing is missing although you'll want to remove the 3" focuser and put something a little more accurate in place This model has the focuser attached to the back plate, very solid.

I've recently collimated this and they hold collimation beautifully.

The photo is one I took using this scope and a QHY10 OSC - it's good enough to see the homonculous in Eta Carinae.

I'm selling as I've had my fun, have not used it properly in a year so that's a pretty clear sign to me that I'm enjoying other things in place of this

Feel free to PM me with questions if you have any.

The OTA weight is 23.5kg before and photographic or visual equipment, so you would need something that handles 30kg conservatively to drive it well.

An eq8, paramount mx, AP1600, losmandy titan, iOptron CEM 70 or better from any of the list will do a good job.

Andy’s Takahashi (on sale in these fora) would be absolutely perfect and is excellent value I note (https://www.iceinspace.com.au/forum/...d.php?t=196877)

If anyone is considering this and would like to see the raw (unprocessed) performance of the scope, I have some FITs that I can share which shows the quality of the optics. They are about 25mb each though, I can share using DropBox.

PM sent back.

By the way, I've been researching and reading comments about the primary mirror baffle and strange light reflections from this kind of scope.

I can confirm this occurs and have not extended the baffle to correct it. So far my images have not needed correction to the scope, I've seen the reflections and can get around them by positioning my chosen target so that it does not create reflections. However, a baffle extender can be created for this, or procured from Teleskop or a number of other places.

Here's an explanation of what happens: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nHuLrYe-oik

Here's a good example in images: https://www.crowson.com/Images/AT12R...be%20Issue.jpg
