filters for photography

I'm removing the IR filter in a Canon DSLR.
The astronomiks filters come highly recommended. What would be the right filter to get those spectacular images of Horshead, Orion and Triffid.

Be gentle with me folks, I'nm not in this for the scientific research a just love taking images of the night sky, I've taken heaps of shots with my unmodded 350 and I want to ge further. Is there a site out there, something like astro imaging filters for dummies ?

Regards
Carl

By removing the filter from in front of the chip, you now have a modded camera, it will be sensitive to the hydrogen alpha bandwidth that is predominant around the horsehead, plis a whole bunch of other wavelengths, generally people add an ir filter which will also let in the required emisions for astrophotography, ( note the original filter in front of the chip removes the lower red end that we want to record ) should you wish to only record that hydrogen emission ( Ha) then buy an Ha filter.

Assume you have worked your way round this site: http://ghonis2.ho8.com/

the newer 1000d & 450d (uk numbers) are easier to mod than the 350, also longer exposure time from these models, canon moved the amp away from the ccd.
