Neptune spectrum

When clouds are more scarce (seldom) seeing has not been great as you can see for this imaging early morning, but this spectrum of Neptune came out fairly well using the Star Analyzer showing nice Methane bands and not needing any dubious stretching to be visualized.

Using the Star Analyzer 100 and Starzonia type iv reducer. Aside from focus drift as the temperature drops to freezing, I find my spectrum focus fidelity falls off around 4100A and below and around 6500A and above in part because of the limitations of this slit-less device, but perhaps also because of the Celestron lens. Although my spectrum states 12 June, that was just when my imaging night started, Neptune rises in the am and so it was a long cold wait. I could not get the H2O and Methane lines in different colors but the bands of H2O lines do not overlap the methane and start where their label is

Nice job Ross! Uranus is a good target too, big methane absorption bands.

Thanks Rob,

Yes I have been waiting impatiently for Uranus (that Voldemort of planets ) and it would be good to catc h both planets in the sky at similar altitudes and look for differences in the spectra including in the color make up as Neptune is supposed to not be quite as different from Uranus as it is often presented.

Perhaps after this icy Canberra winter has passed.

Have been fiddling with Ceres in the meantime, as it rises much earlier.
