Very close David, you would have been on the money if I hadn't added two handles and two finder bases to the TOA....
There is a second handle near the dovetail plate for two handed mounting into the saddle clamp. You can see the black carbon/aluminium second handle in this pic

27.4 just as well it has wheels.....

So close!

I always found the TOA to be a massive scope for its aperture. The AP130 is far more compact, although the native focal length is about 200mm shorter.

Your scope will travel comfortably in your new box!

Managed to glue all the foam into place today to complete the case, just a few days to allow the fumes to dissipate then the TOA can be sealed in safely...
Saved a few $$$ by making it myself, I was originally quoted > $800 for the custom case and a few weeks delivery time.......

Hi Matt,
I love your case. You've inspired me to have a go now. Looking at one for my scope and a second one for my EQ mount. I have one question. What did you do for hinges? I see VFM have piano hinges, lid stay hinges and lift off hinges. Which way did you go?

Hi Dave,
Thanks, I am about to start on the next case. I use the full length stainless steel piano hinge and nylon straps for stays.

When you order the materials make sure to get the rivets and washers from VFM as their washers are a correct fit for the 4.8mm rivets. you will need at least a 100 rivets though likely many more, so get two packets.

If you need any hints, send me a PM..

Telescope Cases

Here are my two attempts. I decided on bigger cases to get everything boxed up. They are heavy but have come up pretty well. Thanks Matt for your great pics which guided me along the way.

that looks fantastic, David

I love the idea of storing the scope and tripod together. Definitely doing that on my build!
