Your biggest DoH!!?? moment- You know you've had one.

I am sure this has been done before, but i'm going to do it again.

I and i'm sure others, are interested in you biggest, "I'm a complete idiot" moment.

We all have them from time to time. It makes us human, we make mistakes, but we learn from them (generally), that is what makes us a superior species.

So in the interest of succeeding and being proficient at our hobby, it serves us well, to share our experiences and encourage others to take the plunge also. It also gives us grace, to forgive ourselves, for those moments when the true meaning of "stoopidity" raises its ugly head...

I'll kick things off.....

Took the new refractor out to view the moon. It would appear I was spending too much time, thinking about the tripod setup.

I aimed in the general vacinity of the moon and tried moving the scope to find it...
I had found it easily the night before...

I tried going up, I tried going down, I tried left then right. I even tried diagonals. Then all at once...!!!

After 3omins I had given up.... Totally furious with myself, that I couldn't find a giant ball of light...

Swearing a tad under my breath, I packed up my gear (with a fair bit of force) and tracked it all back inside.... The swearing consisted of something along the lines of, "If it is this hard, I'm not going to ^%$# try again".

After returning inside, and throwing everything in a corner, I went to look for my scopes lens cap to return it too it...

After 15 mins of looking for the cap, I realised it was on the scope.

You would have thought, I would have noticed there were no stars out... ROFLOL

Needless to say, I haven't made that mistake again...

Here's a couple of beauties I did:

1_ inverting RA & DEC cables on the G11. Kept me busy for most of the night

2_ imaging 20min subs in Ha through my hartman mask.

3_ helping a mate setting up his dobs and having the base plate facing south instead of North. The ARGO NAVIS had a real hard time that night.

Try taking out your 16" set up then realise youve left the step ladder home.
That takes the fun out of it.
Cheers Kev.

Oh that is tops!!!

Here's one, was just reading this thread for new responces and noticed someone had a real similar setup to mine.
That's great because I was about to email them and ask for some info on it.

Turns out it was a real similar setup, almost exact you could say...

Canon 350d... Tamron AF 17-50mm
Zodiac 7x50 Binoculars

I even went, "Woah, they have Zodiac bino's too".

Such an idiot...
