DSI 2 photo of moon - what am I doing wrong?

Tried to take photos of the moon last night with my DSI2. This is the best I could come up with. It is a single image (no darks) at a short exposure of <0.1 second.

What I would like to know is am I doing something wrong and are my expectations too high? When I look through the eyepiece, the image is bright and crisp (except for fluctuations in the atmosphere etc). When I take a shot, it appears blurry and dull. Is this because I am doing something wrong, or is this the way it is? Should I be trying to stack images? With the atmosphere fluctuations, I guess this would be difficult. Would I get better photos with a DSLR?

Hope someone can help me

Matt

Looks slightly out of focus Matt. I had the same problems with focusing my DSI 1, takes a bit of practice. Gave up using the Meade software and went to Nebulosity, find it much easier to use. Take a series of images, stack the best ones (Registax is good for this, and its free) and tweak the result using the tools in the capture software or something like Photoshop.

Hi Matt, the focus is a bit soft but for a single image it is quite good.

Once you get the hang of the Envisage imaging software it isn't that bad but as Bill mentioned you really need a series of images and around 100 of them as a minimum. Registax is a great free program and easy to use and is very good for stacking lunar and planetary images. I've added a link to it.

Thanks for the comments and suggestions. Does anyone have an image that they can post and also share what the key settings were? I guess I would like to see what I am likely to get with what settings. That would help me get my expectations right

Probably not my best images, but this lunar shot was a combination of around 50 images at around 0.1 of a second and stacked in Registax.

It was one of my first images so I was still learning as well. I'll have to take some more as well now that I've learn't a bit more as well.

Cheers

This one is with a DSI 2. About 50 images processed in Invisage. Also a little out of focus.

Thanks for the images guys. These look pretty good and better than I have done, but then I didn't get passed single images because I struggled with the focus.
