Red face Northern NSW dark skies

My first ever telescope a Bintel 8" Dobsonian arrives tomorrow. I moved to Myrtle Creek 30 Km south of Casino just over three weeks ago after retiring and the skies here are mind blowing even just with the naked eye, that is when it is not pouring rain as it is now. Hopefully I will have a lot of fun with it. Maybe some of the people from the Grafton Club might like to come here as it ks dafker than Rappville or Coombell and my sister say notices advertising star parties in both of these villages. Regards Lorna.

Hi, the curse of the new scope :-) You've made a great choice for your first scope. Download Stellarium on your pc or get an app if you have a smart phone, there's a thread right here on the forums about astronomy apps.
Welcome to the site, and to the Northern Rivers. Dropped you a pm. :-)

I live up in the hills west of you and the sky is excellent.
Nevertheless dark (eye) adaption is very important and I suggest an eye patch.
After the rain stops fog and mist can be a worry but there is little particle pollution.
Good luck.

Northern NSW resident checking in

Congrats on your new scope. With skies like yours you will have lots of fun! I'm on the outskirts of Byron and the skies are quite agreeable!
