La Palma observatories on the edge of caldera

Does anyone know what happened to the La Palma observatories during the current volcanic eruption? From Google Earth they appear right on the edge of the volcanic caldera. There some serious telescopes there including the Isaac Newton Telescope.

Hello,

One of the volcano cams is setup at the observatory, looks like the plume at least is not a problem.

The street spectra project looks interesting and worthy of some support.

ING Statement
20 September, 2021

Volcanic Eruption in La Palma

The volcanic eruption starting Sunday 19 September on La Palma has been widely covered in the media. ING wishes to reassure our user community that the Roque de los Muchachos Observatory has so far been unaffected by the volcanic activity or the tremors that preceded it. The access road is likewise unaffected and activity at the Observatory continues as usual.

The Observatory is located on the northern, older and stable part of the island, while this week's eruption, like the ones in 1949 and 1971, were in the younger, southern half.

The Observatory hasn't been affected by volcanic ashes thanks to the north-eastern direction of the wind (see attached picture), and we will keep watching for wind changes. For now, the INT will continue in normal operation, and upcoming observers will be notified as soon as feasible if a change occurs. The WHT is shut down at present for WEAVE integration.

We thank our users for their questions about the volcanic eruption. Our thoughts are with islanders who have lost their homes or have had to evacuate.

ING Director

Some wild cloud and smoke formations there. Island topography I suppose.

Winds off the Sahara I think, coming at around 5300(feet or meters can't remember) and flattening out the ash. The rings are from the variations in the emission levels when it hits the inversion layer, but agreed, very awesome capture.

Update

Recent inflation and EQ activity looks bad for the next few days and no sign of equalisation between the chambers and the vents. Expected to run for weeks yet with current numbers.

However the Youtube stuff has been fascinating to watch, the building and rebuilding phases have been very dramatic at times.
