QUAD RASA 11 Array

Hi Folks,

Here's one for your general interest, a QUAD RASA 11 Telescope Array....

It uses a direct drive custom mount and can point at one point of the sky (3°x2°) or splay the telescopes for a larger (6°x4°)field of view. According to the info, "This system is currently being used by a government research team to search for NEOs (Near Earth Asteroids)"

The RASA 11 is normally a 620mm focal length f/2.22 scope, or f/2.43 if accounting for the light lost by the central obstruction area. Used as a 4 scope system pointing to the same area of the sky there is 4 times the light collected and therefore, in light collection terms, is equivalent to an f/1.21. This is not the case if the scopes are splayed out for wide area coverage and it would remain f/2.43.

Best
JA

Just when I thought I couldn't find an excuse to buy more gear, and then you go and dangle this carrot ...
