A visit to Tamm's obsrvatory in Sweden

How many times have you found a big observatory out in the forest ? When I and my girlfriend was out in the forest and looking for Sweden's ancient history we did not only found one observatory, we found three !

It's one of the observatories that was in the article about old Swedish observatories that I translated to english.

My photos and some complement with information from this event:

Hi Lars

Thanks for posting this. I wonder how much of Tycho Brahe's observatory is in other buildings.

Zero. I wish there was this sort of thing dotted about in our forests! Thanks for sharing this, Lars

I talked to my friend Gunnar, he told me that he visited the oldest observatory on the top of the hill in the 1970s. Already then it was an empty building.

I have also written to Uppsala University and asked if it's possible to do a visit and have a look inside in the future, no answer yet.

Thanks for the interesting story about your visit to Tamms' Observatory and being inside the dome of the 130cm Schmidt Cass. Great looking telescope, don't understand what some of the hardware mounted on and around the telescope would be used for. Did you find out what the main work of the telescope was for.

Hi Jeff,
Thanks for the comments. I did this morning some small updates of the report:

http://www.astrofriend.eu/astronomy/...servatory.html

But it will come more information. I think the task for the observatory was very different to what they did at the end 2007. The latest must be the Exoplant study Eric told me about. In the beginning ? Maybe because Nils Tamm was very interested in variable stars, this wide field telescope was very suited for this task, maybe that was one part in the begining of what it was used for.

I make a notice here when I found something new.

Hi,
Yes, always lucky when in an observatory :-)

With help from Eric at Uppsala University I have corrected the information.

All three observatories belongs to Kvistaberg's observatory. Tamm's observatory is the old at the summit. He had earlier a private observatory behind his villa. It's a photo of it in one of the links.

Here it's once again with updates:

http://www.astrofriend.eu/astronomy/...servatory.html

More will come later.
