Dark “V-shaped” shadow breaching the walls of Aristillus

After processing a wide field view of the region of Aristillus, Autolycus, Archimedes and Rima Hadley taken on 20th August, I noticed a dark “V-shaped” shadow breaching the walls of Aristillus.

Virtual Moon Atlas (VMA) shows this as a shaded region in the screen capture below, under less favourable illumination.

My image is the one without the labels, just in case there is any doubt.

Tak Mewlon 210 F11.5 with Tele Vue 2” PowerMate x2 and ASI 174 MM camera.

Cheers

Dennis

A very interesting feature in Aristillus Dennis. As an overlaying feature it suggests to me that it may be one of the most recent events in the life of the crater. Thanks for posting.

Here's last night effort just before the clouds shut me down. Taken with the ASI 462 MC camera.

The dark V-Shape is quite prominent.

Cheers

Dennis

PS - ignore dust bunny bottom left of centre

Pretty cool. How did you get the color saturation?

I was using the ASI 462 MC which is a colour camera so I just boosted the saturation in PS CC.

Cheers

That's the one I have too. I struggle to get colors. Do you use an IR cut?

Yes - I read somewhere that you do need to use and IR cut filter and one post on CN wrote that colour sat does need a boost compared to the 224MC.

I boosted it "to taste" rather than via some esoteric formula.

Cool. If we get a break with the jetstream here I will try some color with an IR cut only. I have a UV filter as well and I noticed Venus is up but it's pretty featureless in IR.

Thanks Russell, I was very excited to view this shadow in my image so unexpectedly.
