Ewok and Slimer in SHO

Lonely Ewok and Slimer (NGC 6604 and SH2-54) as a full SHO image. Got a tiny bit of SII between clouds last Friday and Saturday. Turned out great for correcting some of the star shapes (NB Luminance with RGB colour). Always an adventure with finding solutions to problems. Initially the image was okay but was quite purple, the stars had some messiness around them (StarExterminator in linear mode can't do as clean an extraction as it can when everything is non-linear), and I was losing some background. Colour palette turned out a lot like Adam's far more detailed version.

Great image Ben that’s really turned out beautiful with the extra colour and contrast in SHO. As for the magic you’ve weaved to fix your stars, from a simple OSC guy, my hat goes off to you sir!

Thanks Dave. Great to have the luxury of narrowband filters when you’re 6km from the city.

Thanks Marcus. I enjoy the colour possibilities with narrowband. I removed the green from the image so all ended up in the red/yellow/blue zone.

I know many people remove green altogether, but think about keeping some in to more clearly delineate the Ha regions. Forgetting about the science, some properly balanced green will enhance the aesthetics of the image. IMO.

Cheers. It’s great to get off the beaten track (a little).

Cheers. I think we both share very much the same idea on this one :-) Tempted to try Marcus’s suggestion of keeping some green….

I completely agree with the idea, but from a perspective of getting as many different complimentary colours on the wheel in your image for contrast reasons so as not to solely rely on shades of grey. A non-cyan green in my experience is really tough to pull in if you're also trying to get reds/oranges as well.

Either way, I really like the deep blues and violet/blacks you pulled in this version, very nice! The 'face' also looks really good with your bigger aperture!

Agree Adam. The green looks good in a more ‘rainbow’ like colour context (if that makes any sense). There’s a few on Astrobin that balance it out nicely. Also nice to have the aperture at times (for some extra detail). Taken delivery of a few new collimation tools from Cat’s Eye (and have made a few stability tweaks in the last few days) so hopefully that helps with some better star shapes in the future. Currently a bit hit and miss.

Very cool image Ben. Beautiful details. Agree with Marcus re:green. Life is boring in blues and oranges
