Filters for Imaging

I was just wondering if there are any filters that I can use with my DSLR camera to increase detail and colour while imaging.

I've seen many images taken with a DSLR camera with some sort of filter attached.

Thanks.

IDAS LPS or Baader UHC-S are the most common.

I've recently acquired an IDAS LPS (2") but no clear skies to use it yet. Btw these are 2" screw-in filters for prime focus imaging.

If you're doing widefield with a lens, you'll need a front-filter depending on your lens.

if it is to enhance the colours, the UHC-S does it quite well however, your colour balance might be slightly off which can always be fixed with photoshop.
