AR3664 returns and immediately emits X3 class flare
The huge sunspot group, AR3664, responsible for the flares that caused the spectacular May 11 aurora rounded the sun again today. Good news, it's still very active and has just given off an X3 flare(very strong).
In the photo from SOHO's EIT 284 taken at 1100am today(May 27) AEST. AR3664 is at the 10 o'clock position in the photo. At the moment, it's still pointing away from Earth so this flare won't be causing any aurorae but fasten your seatbelts, we might have some more action in a week or so, space weather, and terrestrial weather permitting.
Naturally, there's also a big weather system moving in. Should be well established by later this week.
