A good weather forecast for Sydney imaging the rest of the week

Plan your imaging this week as it looks like we are getting a nice run of moonless clear nights from tonight through to Sunday.

Greg.

Yeah, always harder to predict sky clearness accurately up in mountains...but it's looking promising for over the Tinderry mountains too Going up for Fri/Sat nights with a mate who has a new wide field camera-sky tracker-pole master outfit he wants to try out, should be a fun two days up there Good luck at Bigga/Sydney

South Coast NSW looks Ok too for the rest of the week , but very windy 25 to 40 km hr today and tomorrow
Those 2 big Lows in Bass Strait are generating most of high winds , satellite shows them moving quickly to the east with a massive High behind them which should stabilise things by late Wednesday or Thursday morning
Don’t about jet stream winds up high though ?

You're welcome, everyone.

I just sent my camera in for repair, hence the lovely weather en route.

Started out clear last night, windy but good conditions for imaging , captured 2 hours worth 6.30pm to 8.30pm before cloud started rolling in from the south west
Waited for another hour , cloud banks still pushing through , shut down , closed the Dome and watched the Olympics
Hopefully tonight another 2hours or so

Last night was excellent down near Ulladulla
Wind dropped off at 9pm and seeing was quite good
One cloud patch only for 20mins
Captured 4 hours on M16
Tonight looks good too with less wind
Might do some planetary

Promising days are turning to terrible nights here in the Southern Highlands.
I am getting older so do not persevere if the skies are no good by 10pm.
The past two days have seen terrific blue skies - but after dark seeing and transparency just awful. I put both my 18" and 106mm APO out last night - stars were blobs in both. Halos around 3rd magnitude stars - where is all this vapour coming from?

John,
That’s a shame , although I could see a high cloud bank on the satellite video inland but not on the coast
I’m on the south coast just north of Ulladulla and was imaging NGC 5139 from my Dome in the back yard , guiding was excellent very stable and in the front driveway had my 12” Goto dob observing Saturn and Jupiter with clean crisp views , in fact the best views of these planets I’ve had for a couple of years ( I was using my Televue Apollo 11 eye piece just with a cheap #80 blue filter )
Time was about 10.30pm
Seeing and transparency very good
Martin

Last night was great in western Sydney. Better than Thursday. The seeing was a lot better than the few nights last week. Not ideal but you could definitely tell the difference in FWHM.

Yes, I imaged last night from Western Sydney and it was quite good. The jetstream was strong overhead for some of the previous clear nights we've had, not sure how much impact that has or not on DSO imaging though.

I'd say that yesterday seeing was almost exceptional - the best in this planet season so far (and I doubt it will happen again in the next couple of months). I spent 2.5 hours on Saturn and Jupiter. It was possible to get 2.3D for my ED100 - doesn't happen too often.
