I did download the Glendale app, thanks for the advice, between it and several other sites I had been monitoring I thought I might be lucky this time. That was not to be, just before twilight it was mainly clear so threw the cameras etc. into the car and headed off to a vantage point but right on cue another change came through and completely clouded over and also started raining lightly and still is.

I'm wondering if it may be visible from Hassan's Walls Lookout early AM today and considering if I get a couple of hours sleep and am capable of driving up to the lookout around 4AM I may do exactly that and take my D810 and 14mm F2.8ED Samyong with a good tripod snd intervolometer..
I took a load of sleeping pills and have had less than 2 hours sleep over the past 72 hours so whether I wake up...

Who am I kidding, I'll wake up or pee the bed but whether I can drive, I'll see, I won't put my sons and my lives in danger for a photo I can admire from so many other sources but I'd like to maybe try.
I can derive to a friends place 15 minutes away at the highest point in the mountains with near 360 degree views from his place but it's a dark, winding mountain road and not good tired. Plus police are out in force for the Bathurst weekend and idiots on the roads.
Maybe, maybe not.
I would love to get a few shots though if visible, it saves me airfare to Norway which I couldn't afford if I waned to. My friend said he had a good view at 4AM yesterday and I've explained how to maybe get it on his phone if he wants to.

Sorry to hear that Jeff. That's the disadvantage of living near a coast backed by a mountain range.

Hi Leo,

These displays can be very short lived and don't hang around until it's convenient for you. This one was remarkable and rare in that it lasted about 16-18 hrs from 330am on the 11th until about 1030pm much of it during our daytime. Some of the displays I've photographed have only lasted 20 mins.

The 'NOW' in my post at 20:55 meant just that. If you wanted to see it, you needed to go out last night when I posted.

I was very tired from the 345am start. The show was fading out by about 1030 and monitoring satellites indicated nothing more was incoming so I went to bed. Only saw your post this morning. By 1:45am when you posted it was probably too late anyway.

cheers
Joe
