Plato, Archimedes, Copernicus, Atlas & Hercules, Gassendi, Clavius & Tycho, Schikard,

Here are anther series of lunar features from Brisbane 20th Aug 2021.
  • Plato
  • Archimedes, Aristillus, Autolycus
  • Copernicus
  • Atlas, Hercules
  • Clavius, Tycho
  • Schikard, Heinzel
  • Schiller, Longomontanus
  • Gassendi, Mare Humorium

This time I used the ASI 174 MM with the 2” Tele Vue PowerMate x2.0 on the Mewlon 210.

The ASI174 has a Pixel size of 5.86 microns so this gives me a imaging multiplication factor of 23/5.86 = 4, which is less than the often quoted x5 to x7.

Here is a link to a recent post with similar images taken with the same set up, but using the ASI 290 MM camera with 2.9 micron Pixels.

Cheers

Dennis

Wow these are sharp as a tack Dennis - great images.

Interesting to compare to the other setup but obviously the seeing makes a huge difference.

Beautiful Tak sharp images once again of several of the well known areas under differing illumination angles, excellent stuff.

ASI 174 MM versus ASI 290 MM cameras

Here is a comparison of the imaging output of the ASI 174 MM and ASI 290 MM cameras using the same set up on consecutive evenings (20th and 19th Aug respectively).

Both were taken with a Tak Mewlon 210 F11.5 with a 2” Tele Vue x2 PowerMate, to give an F23, 4830mm system. They were taken on consecutive evenings.

These were cropped from the originals on a 1:1 basis. That is, 1 Pixel on the sensor = 1 Pixel on the screen using the Rectangular Marquee Tool in PS CC, set to 900x600 for each crop of Plato from the original full res frames.

I then used the “Ruler Tool” to measure the number of Pixels across Plato in each image.

Cheers

Dennis

EDIT: @Russell & Gerard, I did not use any IR Filters for either session. I must dig my IR642 out of my FW.

Beautiful serie.

Very interesting to see the difference pixel size does. I wonder if drizzle combine with AS!3 makes any difference.
