It's getting toward the end of the season for Brisbane with the hot weather and cloudy conditions fast approaching. Captured this over seven nights through late August and early September. Despite having quite a lot of integration time and subs to play with I was a bit disappointed with the result. The Brisbane light pollution is quite a challenge.

Big version is here:

Comments and advice always welcome.

Colors are spot on IMHO. Love the details and dynamic range in the highres. To the minibar room.

A very good image.

It would be enhanced by adding some Ha to it to bring out those neb areas in the arms.
Greg.

Thanks Greg. I thought the Ha would show up better with the amount of RGB exposure I had but not so in this case. I'll have to make some changes to my imaging plan.

Well Peter, you really dug that one out of the horrible Brisbane skies, truly a lovely "island galaxy floating in space".

Love the smaller BG galaxies too.

Cheers

Dennis

Sharp detail in the core there. Good colour too.

Nice. Something a little weird going on with the sky background/flats .
A good rendition just the same.

Nice image! I wonder if the background is actually integrated flux nebula? I looked back at an image of the same object I did two years ago and it shows a similar background.

Nup, sorry, your flats are off. My own RC16 data doesn't show any IFN

None in M&T's splendid rendition either

What sort of flats do you use?

Looks very good Peter - excellent resolution in the core.

I can see what peter is referring to. Although flats seem to be the most likely culprit there could perhaps be some gradients from light-pollution?
I've recently been imaging from home in Sydney & gradients seem to be ever-present.

Thanks Dennis. I've solved one problem but have created another. Plenty of exposure/subs but multiple nights with potentially different gradients.

Thanks M&T. NGC1365 and NGC1566 are two of my favorite galaxies.

Thanks for the feedback Peter. Do you have any tips on getting to the bottom of whether it is a flats issue? There is certainly quite a LP challenge and gradients to deal with in my location. The PI DBE background maps looked reasonable.

Cheers. I've noticed this in a few of the galaxies I've imaged with two different sets of flats so I suspect it is a gradient/calibration issue but need to figure out a way to narrow it down.

I'm using a flat box and Voyager to capture flats. I've tried a couple of different ADU target values but haven't managed to perfect it. I'm also using PI's WBPP script so maybe I need to switch to a manual workflow and tweak calibration settings somewhere.

Very nice rendition Peter.

I have been using codemonkey's , Lee, Pixinsight hint on an easy way to remove most dust bunnies, also helps with back ground.

Thanks for this link. Gave it a try on another image and it seemed to work quite well.
