Tips with dob

Hi,
i have a skywatcher SW680 dobsonian and a Nikon D200. i have the t-ring &t- adapter for the scope. So i can take planetary photos. But for some reason i can not focus on the planet enough. So for example if i am trying to take a photo of Saturn it will just come up with a very fuzzy dot. Is there anything I can do so I can take photos with my dob?

You might find it easier to image the planets by using video capture instead of a still camera.
These images were taken through my 10" Dob using an old Panasonic Video Camera.
I uploaded the .avi to the computer then stacked them using Registax.
Not the most hi tech approach I know, but I was more than happy with the results.

Hi jjj'

..is that an old analogue videocam, vhs-c/8mm type?
I've been wondering about digging the old one out..and whackin the old capture-card into the pc...( if it all still works )
How'd you attach it? afocal, I presume??
...any focus issues, etc ??

It's one of the first DV Camcorders. Capturing to tape.
I just held the camera up to a 12.5mm eyepiece, zoomed in using the cameras optical zoom, focused then started recording.
It's a bit tricky to start with, but after a bit of practice it becomes a lot easier.
I can't see why you can't use an analogue camera. Steve Massey used one to capture some terrific images.
Chrisyo, an IIS member has taken some of the best Afocal images of Saturn I've ever seen.

Quack24 the issue you are having is not enough travel on your focuser to get the image form far enough back to the sensor on the camera.

Basically the answer is to shorten your ota:

...or put a low profile focuser on it:

thanks guys. i never thought of using a DV Camcorder. i might try that later on when i get one. i think i might go for the low profile focuser as i am not too keen on cutting up my telescope . will the Bintel Crayford Focuser Low Profile 10:1 https://www.bintelshop.com.au/Product.aspx?ID=7448
fit on my scope or not?

I can't say personally, as I have a GSO dob, and GSO focuser, however I'm sure someone with a skywatcher dob on here should be able to tell you.
