Lagoon M8 reprocessed

Hi all

I decided to have another run at my duoband data after having a good chat to Ivo (thanks, Ivo) from StarTools. This is a more technically correct colouring and it turned out okay, so I thought I'd share.
Feel free to chime in with comments/criticisms.

Same stats as before, just reprocessed in StarTools and finished in Photoshop (sorry Ivo, I still have to do that final push! )

Link to larger version

Cheers and thanks for looking

Looks great, and not a criticism at all but the last version you posted didn't have those halos around some of the stars. Is that a filter or something different in the processing maybe?

Cheers Elliot. You’re absolutely right and it’s one area I have a bit of trouble with StarTools. That said, my earlier attempts had even more bloated stars so this is an improvement. I hope Ivo has something planned for star control
one big improvement was to set the blue channel (and green) to zero exposure in the Compose module which used the red channel with smaller stars.

Oh also my scope is just a doublet so the blue channel has a tendency to balloon. That said, Siril handled the bloom quite well. In Siril, I used the red layer for luminance, red and green and the green layer for blue. This gave me nice tight stars

Thanks for commenting and bringing this up, there’s clearly more work for me to do

Those stars are pretty tight in this version. I assume when I get around to doing some imaging with my ED120 I'll have a similar set of issues to work out.

Thanks, Elliot. They weren't as tight in the beginning, I had to get them to this size with some editing. After speaking to Ivo again, he's given me some more tips to further desaturate the stars.
If you start seeing the same issues with your ED120 in future and you use StarTools (or Siril!), let me know and I can share some tips with taming those stars.

Cheers

A lot of spooky detail and colour range in that lagoon. You can remove most of the blue star halo using defringing of the blue channel in PS lightroom. I sometimes do that when shooting in colour with a doublet. It was a major reason to go to narrow band.

This is a quick defringe of the image in LR. With a little care it can work very well in different colour fringes and other lense corrections.

Brilliant, thanks Ray
I saw Trevor from Astrobackyard do something similar once as well.

Thanks for the edit. That looks a lot better
